## Our take

The Ignis D2 is the rare second-generation club with a genuinely interesting reason to exist. The original Ignis D1 shipped with three sole weight ports, and the R&A found that with the heavy weights spread out to the toe and heel rather than gathered in the rear, some heads exceeded the Characteristic Time limit that governs how much a driver face may flex. Takomo's own testing had never run that configuration, and it failed on only some heads, which points at manufacturing tolerance rather than a design that was always over the line. The D2's answer is to stop offering it: a single rear port, a 3-gram weight installed and an 8-gram weight in the box, which removes the problem and, because the mass that used to sit in the toe and heel can now go to the perimeter, raises MOI rather than lowering it. Underneath that it is a serious driver at a price the big four do not compete at — an HST160C titanium body, a carbon crown, a variable-thickness face and an eight-position hosel giving you loft, lie and face angle, with Fujikura Ventus Red or Blue as the stock shaft rather than a made-for imitation. Two honest caveats: it is online-only, so there is no bay to hit it in before you commit, and it comes in 9 and 10.5 degrees only, so anyone who needs a genuinely high-launching head is not the target. For everyone else this is the most interesting $325 in the driver market.
