# 7 of the 15 Presidents Cup bags we hold play a Scotty Cameron, and it crosses both teams

> The putter is the most personal club in the bag and the one most often chosen on feel. So it is strange that nearly half of the Medinah bags we maintain have settled on the same make, four on one team and three on the other.

## In short

- Across the 15 of 24 Presidents Cup players whose bags we maintain, 7 play a Scotty Cameron — four Americans and three Internationals — while the other 8 split across seven different models from four brands. In the same 15 bags, 10 play a Titleist ball but only 6 play a Titleist driver, which is where tour convergence really lives. Nine players are missing from the count and bags change in a team week, so treat it as a snapshot rather than a census. For your own putting, length and lie will move the needle further than any of these badges.

The 16th Presidents Cup is at Medinah Country Club from 24 to 27 September 2026, Brandt Snedeker against Geoff Ogilvy, both twelve-man rosters completed on 1 September. Course No. 3, redesigned by OCM in 2024, will play 7,564 yards at par 72. Before any of it starts, there is a number in our own files worth putting on the table, because it runs against everything the putter is supposed to be.

Of the 24 players selected, we maintain and re-verify bags for 15. Across those 15, **7 play a Scotty Cameron** — four on the American side and three on the International side. The other eight are spread across seven different putter models from four other brands. One make holds nearly half of these bags, and it does not respect the team sheet.

## Why that is odd and not just interesting

Every other convergence in a tour bag has an obvious mechanism behind it. Ball and club contracts are commercial, iron models cluster because tour vans build what tour vans build, and shaft choices follow fitters around. The putter is the club that escapes all of that. It is the one most often chosen on feel, on how the head sits to a particular pair of eyes, on a shape somebody has trusted since they were sixteen. It is also, famously, the club most likely to be a one-off build that never reaches a shop.

So a putter make appearing in seven of fifteen bags is not the same kind of fact as a ball appearing in ten of them. It is a preference arriving at the same address repeatedly, from players with nothing else in common — different equipment contracts, different countries, different strokes, half of them playing against the other half in ten days' time.

## Where the other eight went, which is the honest half

Underneath that single number the spread is wide, and it should be reported as loudly as the headline. [Scottie Scheffler](https://ifrothgolf.com/witb/scottie-scheffler) and Collin Morikawa both play a TaylorMade Spider Tour X. Wyndham Clark is on a Ping Scottsdale Tec Ally Blue Onset and [Corey Conners](https://ifrothgolf.com/witb/corey-conners) on a Ping PLD Milled Ally Blue Onset. Sam Burns plays an Odyssey Ai-One, Xander Schauffele an Odyssey Toulon and Min Woo Lee an Odyssey TRTL, which is three Odysseys that share a badge and very little else. [Adam Scott](https://ifrothgolf.com/witb/adam-scott) plays a L.A.B. Mezz.1 Max, the lie-angle-balanced design that has taken over club car parks over the last two years.

That is eight bags, seven distinct models, four brands. If you want a single sentence for the whole dataset: the most-played putter make is played by fewer than half the players, and everybody else is doing something different from almost everybody else. Both halves of that are true and only one of them makes a headline.

## The caveat, stated where you will actually read it

This is 15 of the 24 players, drawn from the 53 bags we maintain and re-verify against named sources. Nine are missing: Chris Gotterup, Jackson Bridgeman and Michael Koivun on the American side, and Si Woo Kim, Ryan Fox, Nico Echavarría, Ryo Hisatsune, Nick Taylor and Christiaan Bezuidenhout on the International side. They are missing because we have not yet been able to verify their setups against a source we are willing to publish, not because anything about them is inconvenient. Every bag behind these numbers is linked and dated on [our WITB index](https://ifrothgolf.com/witb).

It is also a team week, which is the worst week of the year to treat a bag as fixed. Players tinker before a Cup, putters get swapped on a Tuesday, and a number that is accurate on 14 September may be wrong by the Friday fourballs. Treat this as a snapshot of a group, not a census of a tournament.

One more thing we are not going to pretend away: several of those seven Scottys are tour prototypes rather than clubs you can order. We have already counted that gap properly across the whole file, and it is [bigger for this brand than for any other](https://ifrothgolf.com/read/tour-putters-you-cannot-buy), so read that before you take the seven as a shopping instruction.

## Where tour convergence actually happens, and it is not the putter

The same 15 bags answer a more useful question if you set the putter down for a moment. Ten of the 15 play a Titleist ball — six of the nine Americans and four of the six Internationals. Only six of the same 15 play a Titleist driver, with TaylorMade on three, Callaway on three, Ping on two and Srixon on one.

That is the same players, in the same bags, in the same week. The ball is dramatically more concentrated than the driver, and the reason is not that one company makes a better ball than everybody else makes drivers. It is that the ball is the one piece of equipment a player cannot compromise on without changing every number in the bag at once, and it is the piece most tightly bound into an equipment deal. The driver is a head that gets swapped when something goes half a mile an hour faster. None of that is new, exactly — we have written about the Titleist ball share across the whole file in [Pro V1 vs Pro V1x](https://ifrothgolf.com/read/pro-v1-vs-pro-v1x), including the part where the X outnumbers the standard model nearly three to one. The new bit is the contrast: hold the group constant and the ball and the driver behave like completely different categories.

Which puts the putter number in its place. It is a strong clustering in the category where you would least expect one, sitting underneath a much stronger clustering in the category where it is fully explained.

## What a club golfer should take from this, which is less than you would like

Almost nothing about the brand. A putter make appearing in seven of fifteen elite bags tells you those players like how a particular family of heads sits at address and that a particular tour department builds what they ask for. It does not tell you that the head suits your eyes, your stroke arc or the greens you play in November.

What the spread underneath does tell you is worth more. Eight of the best players in the world, selected for the same team event, arrived at seven different answers. Clark and Conners both chose an onset hosel from the same brand and Scott chose a design built entirely around lie angle balance, and all three are right, because all three were fitted rather than persuaded. The [Ping Scottsdale Tec Ally Blue Onset](https://ifrothgolf.com/product/ping-scottsdale-tec-ally-blue-onset-putter) is Clark's model and sits at around $500; the [Odyssey Ai-ONE Jailbird](https://ifrothgolf.com/product/odyssey-ai-one-jailbird-putter) at around $350 is the cheapest serious way into the effectively-zero-torque mechanism that [L.A.B.'s DF3](https://ifrothgolf.com/product/lab-golf-df3-putter) built its reputation on. The [Scotty Cameron Phantom](https://ifrothgolf.com/product/scotty-cameron-phantom-putter) line at around $550 is a genuinely good milled mallet and deserves to be judged as one.

The variable that will change your putting more than any of those badges is length, and it is the one nobody checks. A putter two inches too long drags your eyes inside the ball and opens the face at address, which makes every other choice on this page meaningless. We have written the five-minute version of that test in [the 34-inch putter piece](https://ifrothgolf.com/read/putter-length-is-probably-wrong). Do that first, then argue about heads.

## The short version

Seven of fifteen is a real number and it crosses both team rooms, which makes it a genuinely interesting fact about elite putting. It is not a recommendation, and the eight bags underneath it — seven models, four brands, one of them built to order — are the better guide to how you should be shopping. Go and get measured. Then buy the one that looks right to you over a four-footer, whoever else is playing it at Medinah.

## The takeaway

Across the 15 of 24 Presidents Cup players whose bags we maintain, 7 play a Scotty Cameron — four Americans and three Internationals — while the other 8 split across seven different models from four brands.

## FAQ

### How many of the 15 Presidents Cup bags play a Scotty Cameron putter?

Seven of the 15 bags we maintain for the 2026 Presidents Cup rosters play a Scotty Cameron putter: four on the American side and three on the International side. The other eight are spread across seven different putter models from four other brands, including TaylorMade, Ping, Odyssey and L.A.B.

### When and where is the 2026 Presidents Cup?

The 16th Presidents Cup runs from 24 to 27 September 2026 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois. Brandt Snedeker captains the United States and Geoff Ogilvy captains the International team, and both twelve-man rosters were completed on 1 September 2026. Course No. 3, redesigned by OCM in 2024, plays 7,564 yards at par 72.

### Do more Presidents Cup players use a Titleist ball or a Titleist driver?

The ball, by a wide margin. Across the same 15 bags, 10 play a Titleist ball — six of the nine Americans and four of the six Internationals — while only six play a Titleist driver. The drivers split across TaylorMade with three, Callaway with three, Ping with two and Srixon with one.

### Should I buy the putter brand most tour players use?

No. A putter is the most fitting-sensitive club in the bag, and length, lie, head weight and how the shape sits to your eye decide whether you hole putts. Many tour Scotty Camerons are prototypes or tour-only builds rather than the retail club of the same name, and the eight players in this count who chose something else arrived at seven different answers between them. Get measured, then choose the head that looks right to you.
