# Rapsodo MLM2XPRO vs MLM2PRO: the same 15 metrics, so the extra money buys tracked putting and speed

> Rapsodo's new launch monitor measures exactly what the old one does. What it adds is putting in simulation, a faster connection and an easier set-up, while the MLM2PRO drops in price. The membership bill is identical on both.

## In short

- The Rapsodo MLM2XPRO (around $900) and the MLM2PRO (now around $550) both pair radar with two cameras and list the same 15 metrics, eight of them measured, with spin rate and spin axis only on RPT balls. The XPRO adds tracked putting in simulation, which Rapsodo says needs XPRO hardware, plus claimed twice-as-fast connection and shot feedback, an adjustable tripod, LED alignment and a status screen that does not show shot data, and 12 RPT balls instead of three. Both need a yearly Core membership (around $200) for spin, club data and the 30,000 courses; three years of it costs more than an MLM2PRO. Buy the XPRO to putt out simulated rounds; buy the MLM2PRO for range work or a sim without putting.

The [Rapsodo MLM2XPRO](https://ifrothgolf.com/product/rapsodo-mlm2xpro) measures the same 15 metrics as the [Rapsodo MLM2PRO](https://ifrothgolf.com/product/rapsodo-mlm2-pro), and the same eight of them directly. What the extra money buys is putting tracked into simulation, faster connection and shot feedback, an easier set-up and more balls in the box. The XPRO went on sale in mid-October at around $900. The MLM2PRO, which Rapsodo still sells, is now around $550, so the older unit costs about 39 per cent less.

Everything below comes from Rapsodo's own product pages, membership table and FAQs, because the dealers selling both units, us included through PlayBetter, have an interest in the answer.

## What is identical

Both units pair Doppler radar with two cameras, and both list the same metrics. The device measures ball speed, launch angle, launch direction, club speed, angle of attack and club path, plus spin rate and spin axis. Carry, total distance, side carry, smash factor, apex and descent angle are calculated from those measurements. Both capture impact footage at 240 frames per second, both work indoors and outdoors, and both connect to third-party simulators such as GSPro, E6 and Awesome Golf.

Both also share the same catch on spin. Rapsodo's membership table says measured spin rate and spin axis come only with RPT golf balls, the Titleist and Callaway balls printed with a pattern the camera reads. Without them you still get ball speed, launch and carry. Rapsodo sells RPT balls only through its own store, at around $70 a dozen. The XPRO comes with a 12-ball box of them; the MLM2PRO comes with a three-ball sleeve.

## What the XPRO adds

**Tracked putting.** This is the headline. Rapsodo's membership table lists simulation putting across its 30,000 courses as new, with the note that tracked putting requires MLM2XPRO hardware. PlayBetter's launch explainer says the same thing from the other side: on the MLM2PRO, putting was not tracked by the launch monitor. If you want to finish holes on the screen rather than pick the ball up at the green, only the XPRO does it natively.

**Speed.** Rapsodo claims twice the connection speed and twice the shot-to-show speed of the MLM2PRO. That is the maker's number and nobody has published an independent one yet, but anyone who has read MLM2PRO owner reviews on Rapsodo's own page will know why it matters: dropped connections and frozen sessions are a recurring complaint there.

**Set-up.** The XPRO adds an adjustable tripod leg, LED alignment guidance and a small screen on the device. It is worth being precise about that screen. Rapsodo's FAQ says it shows battery, connection status and a levelling guide, and that shot data appears in the app, not on the device. It is a set-up aid, not a readout.

**A new app.** The XPRO runs on the new Rapsodo Golf app, and Rapsodo says the old MLM2PRO app does not work with it. PlayBetter reports that the new mobile and PC apps also support the MLM2PRO, so current owners are not being left on old software.

## The membership is the same bill on both

This is where most of the cost of either unit sits. Rapsodo's table for both models shows the free tier at 11 metrics with no spin, no angle of attack, no club path, no simulated courses and no third-party software access. Core, at around $200 a year, unlocks all 15 metrics, the 30,000 courses, the practice modes, swing replay and Impact Vision. Studios, at around $400 a year, adds premium 4K courses on a compatible PC. Both units ship with a 21-day Core trial, and Rapsodo bills memberships yearly only.

Do the sum before you choose. Three years of Core costs more than an MLM2PRO, and about two-thirds of an XPRO. Over the life of either unit, the membership is the bigger number. One genuine perk for existing owners: Rapsodo says Lifetime members who buy an XPRO by 15 March 2027 can transfer the Lifetime membership to it, as a one-time offer.

## The space you need

Rapsodo's set-up guidance for the XPRO is 7.5 feet behind the ball and at least 8 feet from the ball to the net, so a little over 15 feet in total, more for taller players who want the full swing on video. A behind-the-ball radar unit needs that depth in a way a ceiling or side-mounted camera system does not, which is the trade-off our [radar vs camera explainer](https://ifrothgolf.com/read/radar-vs-camera-launch-monitors) walks through. If your room is shorter than that, neither of these will work well indoors, and winter is when you find out: our piece on [what winter does to a home simulator](https://ifrothgolf.com/read/what-winter-does-to-a-home-golf-simulator) covers the rest.

## Who should buy which

Buy the MLM2XPRO if you are building an indoor simulator, plan to play full rounds on it, and want to putt them out without adding a separate putting system. If you were going to buy at full price anyway, the 12 RPT balls and the set-up aids go some way to closing the gap.

Buy the MLM2PRO if your Rapsodo will live mostly on the range, or if you will play simulated golf but are happy to concede putts. The data is the same, and at about 39 per cent less the saving goes a long way towards a net and a mat. Our [MLM2PRO review](https://ifrothgolf.com/read/rapsodo-mlm2-pro-review) still stands on the hardware.

Current MLM2PRO owners have no new metric to chase. Upgrade only if tracked putting matters to you, and check the Lifetime transfer date first.

## Who should skip both

Anyone who will not pay a yearly membership. On the free tier both units show 11 metrics and no spin, and that is a lot of hardware for a carry-and-speed readout. If that is you, compare the subscription terms in our [Garmin R10 vs MLM2PRO](https://ifrothgolf.com/read/garmin-r10-vs-rapsodo-mlm2-pro) piece, and see the wider field in [best launch monitors under 1,000](https://ifrothgolf.com/guides/best-launch-monitor-under-1000).

## The takeaway

## FAQ

### Does the Rapsodo MLM2XPRO measure more than the MLM2PRO?

No. Rapsodo lists 15 metrics for both, with the same eight measured: ball speed, launch angle, launch direction, club speed, angle of attack, club path, spin rate and spin axis. Carry, total distance, side carry, smash factor, apex and descent angle are calculated. The XPRO adds tracked putting in simulation, faster connection and an easier set-up.

### Do you need RPT balls for the Rapsodo MLM2XPRO?

Only for spin. Rapsodo says measured spin rate and spin axis require RPT golf balls, while ball speed, launch and carry work with any ball. The XPRO box includes 12 RPT balls and the MLM2PRO box includes three. Rapsodo sells more only through its own store.

### Do you need a membership for the MLM2XPRO?

For most of it, yes. The free tier gives 11 metrics with no spin, club path or angle of attack and no simulated courses. A yearly Core membership unlocks all 15 metrics, 30,000 courses, simulation putting, swing replay and third-party software access. Both units include a 21-day Core trial, and three years of Core costs more than an MLM2PRO.

### Can the Rapsodo MLM2PRO track putting?

Not in simulation. Rapsodo's membership table says tracked putting requires MLM2XPRO hardware, and PlayBetter's launch explainer says putting was not tracked by the MLM2PRO. That is the main feature the newer unit adds.
