The ifrothgolf review
Every other blade in golf starts as a billet or a mould. The 3DP MB starts as powder: the head is 3D printed in one piece by direct metal laser sintering, which is Cobra's way of putting an internal lattice inside a shape that has no cavity to hide anything in. That lattice is the whole argument. It holds the face up and tunes the ringing, and because it weighs almost nothing compared with the solid steel it replaces, Cobra could spend 54.3g of tungsten low in the head — 32.6g in the toe, 21.7g in the heel — on a club that still looks like a muscleback from address. The result is a blade with a centred, lower centre of gravity and a stability figure that has no business belonging to this silhouette. The shape is a light revision of the KING MB, reworked on Max Homa's feedback with a thinner topline and a touch more offset, and it joins the 3DP Tour and the wider-soled 3DP X in the printed range. Two honest caveats, and they are large. The first is money: $2,800 buys six clubs and no more, and the per-club arithmetic is what made Golf Monthly call the cost prohibitive in an otherwise admiring review. The second is expectation: this is a distance-control iron, not a distance iron, and the launch-monitor numbers are deliberately unremarkable. Forgiving for a blade is not the same as forgiving.
