The ifrothgolf review

The Hot Launch Max D is a hollow-body ironwood set — closer to a bag full of hybrids than a bag full of irons — and it won MyGolfSpy's 2026 Most Wanted title in the super game-improvement iron category, finishing top three for both distance and forgiveness and taking the accuracy crown outright. That is the entire reason it is here. Tour Edge does not buy tour staff bags, does not run the ad pages, and does not appear on the racks most golfers browse, so a data-led test win is the only route it has to a shortlist. The design is straightforward about what it is doing: a wide sculpted sole with perimeter weighting for stability from bad lies, an offset head that helps the face square up, a low-profile face for easy launch, and full-face grooves so heel and toe strikes still hold some spin. Sets run 4-iron through pitching wedge with individual clubs available, in Aldila Ascent graphite (A, R or S) or KBS Max MT85 steel — and the steel build is the cheaper of the two, which is worth knowing before you default to the graphite listing. The catch is visible in the photographs and worth stating plainly: the ironwood profile is thick behind the ball, and if you cannot get past looking down at that, no test result will fix it. For a golfer who has stopped pretending they want a players' iron, it is the most credible value set in the category right now.
