Callaway launched this on 14 August 2026 calling it the founding club of a new category, the "scoring wood", which is marketing doing what marketing does. Strip that away and there's a real idea underneath. Fairway woods are usually engineered to reduce spin, because spin costs distance off the tee. This one is engineered to add it: a higher centre of gravity paired with a high-spin face, producing a claimed 500–800rpm more than a conventional 7-wood. Spin is what makes a ball land steeply and stop, so the target is the golfer who can reach a par 5 in two but whose ball skids through the back every time — a problem long irons and low-spin woods both fail to solve from opposite directions. It comes in 21°, 24° and 27°, and the 27° in particular is a strange, interesting club with almost no equivalent in a normal bag. The caveat is the same as the pitch: extra spin costs carry, so this is a club you add for control on approach shots, not one you swap in to hit it further. If your long approaches already stop, you don't need it.
