Haeran Ryu's WITB: two majors, and no fairway woods

Ryu won the KPMG and the Evian in 2026 with a driver, a mini driver and one hybrid above her irons. Not a single fairway wood. Every club, club by club.

Haeran Ryu's long game is three clubs and none of them is a fairway wood. She tees off with a TaylorMade Qi4D LS at 8°, carries a TaylorMade R7 Quad mini driver at 11.5° as the second option, and bridges to the irons with a single Qi4D Rescue at 17°. Below that it is a P770 4-iron, P7MC irons from the 5-iron, three MG5 wedges and a Scotty Cameron Phantom 11R OC — the only club in the bag that isn't TaylorMade.

She won two majors with it in seven weeks. At the KPMG Women's PGA at Hazeltine she beat Ina Yoon by two; at the Evian she shot an 11-under 60 in the third round — the lowest round ever recorded in a women's major — and beat Brooke Henderson in a play-off. Those were her fourth and fifth LPGA wins, and they made it four straight seasons in which she has won.

The story of the bag

No fairway woods at all is the rarest thing in this bag, and the mini driver is what makes it possible. An 11.5° R7 Quad is longer and lower-spinning than a 3-wood off the tee and still playable off the deck, so it does two jobs; the 17° rescue then covers what a 5-wood normally would. It is the most committed version of a shape that keeps appearing in LPGA bags — Céline Boutier plays a mini driver instead of a driver, and Jennifer Kupcho carries one alongside hers.

The 2021 TP5 is the other quiet outlier. TaylorMade has released two generations of the ball since, and Ryu has won two majors on the old one.

Her 60 at Evian is worth stating plainly because it is a record, not a flourish: 11 under par in a single round is the lowest score recorded in any women's major championship.
